Synopsis:
“Impossible City,” an hour-long documentary about the recent explosion of growth in Dubai that is currently being produced by CBS News, will air on the Discovery Channel at 10 p.m. on Oct. 9. “Impossible City” will feature O-14–a 22-story commercial tower perched on a two-story podium in the heart of Dubai’s Business Bay–during one of six segments. Throughout the segment, architect Jesse Reiser and developer Shahab Lufti will guide viewers through the sciencebehind the design of O-14, and the advanced technologies that contribute to its realization. O-14 comprises 300,000 sq. ft. and will be located along the extensionof Dubai Creek. The design of O-14 has eliminated the now obligatory curtain-wall solutions and above-ground parking, in favor of a shade-producing, concreteload-bearing shell and an open public space at the tower base achieved through below-ground parking. As of September 2008, the first nine floors and exterior shell of O-14 have been cast, and the building will be completed in spring 2009.
